Sarah knew things would have to change when she became a mum, so the former advertising executive took a leap and followed her dream to become a yoga teacher. Now, she is a specialist in pre and post natal yoga with her own studio, Yogamama in Sydney’s East. “I needed a job that was less demanding on my time. Having to be available to my clients needs at whatever time of the day or night was never going to work with my number one client, Mackenzie”. Even though Yogamama received a welcoming response when it opened in 2008 Sarah didn’t want to put all her eggs in one basket so she hired a teacher with clientele to provide regular classes and kept a part time role at the ad agency. This allowed her to focus on providing pre and post natal yoga, and not be reliant on the income of a new business. “I am passionate about yoga and was really excited to have the studio but I have no idea how I found the time to fit everything in. With my two paid jobs and my number one unpaid job of “Mum” I was very busy. I always kept two days a week however just for Mackenzie”. Nowadays, Mackenzie is a flamboyant toddler with a baby sister called Lucy, and Yogamama’s classes are often spilling out the doors. “If I could offer one time management tip it would be to ask for help when you need it! I quickly recognised I couldn’t do everything on my own, and that in order to do all the things I am passionate about I need the help of others”. “Motherhood is a wonderful journey of discovery and mystery. I have uncovered so many new emotions and characteristics I never knew I had within me. I love the strength, compassion, wisdom, courage and laughter that I have experienced so far. It is also a real gift to be sharing this journey with my family. I know it can be hard but it is really important to take time out of our busy lives to focus inward.
