Before Social Gain there was a Sydney Mum.

From 2008 to 2018, I ran an independent digital media platform called SydneyMum.com.au. It started as a way to keep me writing and from wanting to know who the women in my mother's group were outside of our new born conversations and the world of motherhood? Simple concept: who we are, and what we love.

Over nine years, that idea grew into something much bigger.

363 articles. 144,000 words. A podcast. A regular contributor network.

We profiled documentary filmmakers who took their children to India. Artists with galleries in New York and London. A woman who organised Christmas parties for 5,000 children with special needs. Yoga teachers, nutritionists, financial advisors, speech pathologists, and many more women who were not defined by one thing.

Sydney Mum taught me so much.

It showed me how the best stories are already in the room — you just need to ask. It taught me that consistency builds trust, and that trust builds movements. It taught me that being human, caring, and showing up will build connection faster than any clicks or algorithms.

Every project Social Gain runs today carries DNA from Sydney Mum.
