Dubbo Slide Night
3 September 2024Life has a way of testing us, and too often when we least expect it.
At my next Taco’Bout event, the theme is resilience powered by life’s most unexpected turns.
For this tasty talk, I don’t have a therapist or coach. Instead, Craig Granger is with us. To unpack the topic I’m taking from the book, 7 Lessons from When Things Don’t Go Your Way. I can’t wait to hear Craig’s take on these lessons.
Craig isn’t just talking the talk, he’s riding the ride.
Craig is one of those people who gets on a bicycle and rides 1,200 km over six days. But not in a Forrest Gump style—no! These rides require extensive planning, and he’s been doing them for years—tough rides, that is, to advocate for tough issues.
Right now he is riding ‘Corner to Cape’, a 1,800-kilometer cycling journey from Cameron’s Corner to Cape Howe, with over 10,300 meters of climbing across 25 days. The ride is to raise awareness of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), mental health, and the need for better medical services in isolated communities.
The cause of this ride is personal but Craig insists this is not about him. Even though there is no known cure for MS, a chronic disease that more than 10 Australians are diagnosed with every week, Craig, who is one of the 33,300+ Australians living with MS, is not asking for donations to support this ride. Here are some key facts to download.
Craig wants us to pay attention.
In 2015, the lack of feeling in the soles of Craig’s feet was assumed to be the result of long rides. In 2017 on returning from a cycle tour of Spain and spectating the Cycling World Championships in Norway, the tingling and numbness was attributed to something else. These initial attacks, as they are known, continued until one early morning in 2020 when Craig commenced an uncontrollable downhill journey that led to his diagnosis.
Life throws curveballs, some seem bigger than the moon. So, what are your thoughts on how to overcome life’s challenges? I’m asking because Taco’Bout talks are never one way.
Here’s what I think. Surrounding ourselves with the right people can make a big difference when tackling something sticky, tricky, or overwhelmingly hard. And a good taco is the perfect bite to satisfy a hungry spirit between the end of the workday and dinner. So come along! Bring your curious mind—we’d love to see you.
