In a world full of unknowns, fear often becomes our uninvited guest. But how we handle that fear can shape our lives in unexpected ways.

At our second Taco’Bout event, we dove deep into the dynamics of fear and uncertainty – from personal decisions to societal impacts. My expert guest was Holistic Counsellor, Charnie Tuckey.

This topic came about as I reflected on how I generally embrace a glass-half-full mentality. I consider myself comfortable in taking risks, whether it’s launching new ventures or embarking on life-changing adventures. But the April 13 stabbings at Bondi Junction, had me wondering if I went there again, would I be scanning for threats or routes of escape? This had me thinking of another event, when I became a mum for the first time and how I read nearly every book on newborns rather than sleeping. I wanted certainty in the face of uncertainty.

Some of the questions I put to the audience and Charnie were

  • When does caution become hypervigilance?
  • Can certainty make us brave, or does it hold us back?
  • How does uncertainty affect our moral compass?
Over the hour we drew inspiration from those who are known to excel in navigating fear and uncertainty like entrepreneurs and first responders, plus others who possess qualities like unique resilience, adaptability, and risk-taking to see how they can teach us valuable lessons in confronting big, small, individual and societal fears head-on.

We also looked at these notions from a holistic counselling perspective.

Like all Taco events, this was a non-biased back-and-forth to bring out more questions and things to chew over – with a tasty taco and refreshing margarita.

Whether you’re a seasoned risk-taker or someone who approaches life with caution, there’s something for everyone at Taco’Bout.

Let’s navigate the complexities of life, one taco at a time.
