I watched the Brats documentary. As a Gen Xer who watched the Brat Pack classic, The Breakfast Club multiple times as I was coming of age, what struck me was not the nostalgia, but the deep insights into how people deal with rejection.

Rejection comes in many forms—whether it’s on a global stage, within a group, or even self-imposed. It might be the sting of not getting that job, not being invited, or feeling out of place. While not the intention, Brats brilliantly illustrates the many ways we humans react to rejection: denial, anger, depression, letting go, or letting it define us. It was fascinating to see how my beloved cool people perceived and navigated ‘the situation’ that saw them split.

It made me realise just how relevant these themes are, even 30 years later and this reflection couldn’t have come at a better time. Next Wednesday, I’ll be sitting down with Psychological Therapist, Renee Webster at the next Taco’bout Wednesday event. Renee was my very first guest, and we explored the theme of “Finding Identity.”

This time, we’ll be diving into the complex layers of rejection. Renee and I have had a few deep conversations in preparation, and her insights are nothing short of transformative. As always, I’ll bring some research and stories for us all to ponder. I’m so looking forward to hearing what our audience has to share.

If you’re in Dubbo next Wednesday evening, please join us for the tastiest after-work event in our town’s cosiest bar, The Establishment. Doors open at 5 pm for the 5.30-6.30 pm talk.

You have the choice of meat or vegetarian tacos, classic or non-alcoholic margarita, and whether you want to add to or just listen to this conversation that’s sure to resonate with everyone.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
